Guten tag from Vienna, Austria!
So we almost didn't get tickets for the train over to vienna. The night before we jumped online to book tickets and it appeared we wouldn't be able to get seats onna train for another 4 days... So we had a mini panic attack as we had already booked accommodation and we had to get to Prague straight after Vienna so we were on a bit of a tight schedule.. Turns out it wasn't that bad, the hostel told us to just rock up to the train station on the day we wanted to leave.
We rock up the next morning, get to the ticketing office, and wait with all the other poor sods who didn't book in advance. There we were just waiting for our number to be called, and a man sitting next to me starts talking to me. Asks me where I'm from and where I'm going, tells me where he's just come from. Then after a bit of a conversation he gets a call and asks me to mind his bags for him... Suspicious right? Yeah I thought it was abit suss. Made sure he was always nearby because if he start running off I was gonna join him. Anyways, he came back, it was all fine - turns out he was too tired to wait and ended up giving us his waiting ticket (which was like 10 numbers earlier than ours) so moral of the story is that not all people who talk to you are suss. But for the most part, be careful.
In other news, the apartment we're renting from airBNB is amazing. Great facilities. Got a cool brewery nearby that has live music and great food and beer (of course) every night and so we've been hitting that up a fair bit. The sights are great here in vienna; seems as though there is more to see round here than Budapest, but the night life is far from what it was like in Budapest.. Though we will be hitting up a recommended bar tonight and then the city bars tomorrow, so I'll reserve judgement til after those. Architecture is amazing here, slightly more than budapest.
Fun story, today just walking around we stumbled across a film festival and had a beer or two in the warm sun. Then ended up going up to a group of girls who had a guitar and I got to play jam out afew chords and licks.
I've also made it my goal to learn the local language basics in each country I visit, so I learned afew Hungarian phrases, now had learned some German ones to the point where I almost sound like a local when ordering meals and drinks til they ask an odd question and I get thrown off.
I can't remember the last time I had a fully sober day.. Europe has ruined me. Beers so cheap and tasty.. Everything so cheap and tasty.
Anyways, we're organising how to get to a music festival this weekend so that's enough to keep you posted for now.
Until next time, auf wiedersehen!
